TD Theme – How we organize ourselves Central Idea – Communities function because of the systems within them. Key Concepts – Function, Connection, Change Students of Grade 5 explored the importance of the common systems found in all organizations e.g. transport, human resources, security etc. and prepared a collation sheet listing the critical systems and their functions in different organizations. Students got a first-hand glimpse on how systems in a hotel function, through a field trip to Marriott Courtyard Hotel. They represented the interconnectedness of the various systems in a hotel through a mind map. Going further, students analyzed the effectiveness of the Odd/Even system in Delhi in reducing pollution through SWOT analysis. In Math, students learned strategies to multiply big numbers e.g. lattice method, quick method, square method. Grades 5A and B then had a session of peer teaching to share these strategies. It was lovely to see them so involved and eager to learn from each other! Our world of Language –
Students discussed the elements of instruction writing and informal letters as part of their English lessons. It was fun watching them give instructions for sandwich making. In Hindi, students read the interview of ‘Mr. Kunwar Singh’ who has won the award for the best postman and had discussion about the postal system in India. They prepared relevant question samples and then interviewed the school house keeping head about cleaning system in school. They also had a group discussion on the structure and process of admission in school. Hindi Ab initio students practiced speaking, reading and writing letters of the hindi alphabets . They also had a discussion and wrote the terminology used for 'Our helpers'. French students researched to find out the colours of the rainbow in French. They were introduced to the topic of simple classroom objects with a power point presentation. They also learnt to ask - 'What is this' and to say 'This is' in French and discussed the difference between definite and indefinite article. Spanish students watched a video to understand differences between the two verbs (SER – To be, ESTAR - To be) which have the same meaning. Moving away from Academics ….. Music? Or Math? Students learned the song ‘Counting Stars’ in their Music class. Students continued to learn the contemporary dance form. To bring finesse, they focused on their movements and rhythm with different combinations of passes and jazz walks.
