Students continued their research on explorers of their choice and created a timeline listing the important events in an explorer’s life using the app – ‘ReadWriteThink’ Timeline. Further, through a class discussion they listed the reasons of land, sea and space explorations and also demonstrated an understanding of some of the common reasons for exploration in land/sea/space. Some students created crossword puzzles while others plotted a timeline of important events in an explorer’s life to display an understanding of the first line of inquiry ‘Explorations and discoveries through time.’ Students explored the spatial aspect of Math as they learnt about Cartesian co-ordinates. They practised plotting graphs, identifying and marking pairs of co-ordinates on graph paper. They realised Math can be fun while playing the Battleship game – a real life application of co-ordinates! They revised their reports and rewrote them using 5 steps of writing. Students tuned into biography as a genre of writing by stating the differences and similarities between biography and autobiography using a Venn diagram. They will be writing biographies of explorers after understanding the essential elements of biographies. Students had discussions in Hindi class about exploration on mountains and different parts of earth. They debated the positive and negative aspects of exploration in the context of humanity, nature and environment. They watched a video on the evolution of Mt. Everest, and the exploration by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. They also learnt about the first Indian woman to climb the Everest- Bachendri Pal. They created their own questions based on the video about her life and journey of success. In French students learnt to write the conjugation of verb Etre (to be) and how to use formal and informal subject- verb combinations. They also made a mind map using different adjectives in English to describe themselves and used their research skills to find out French adjectives for the same. Spanish students revised the first form of the verb "SER=To be" in the class. They learnt the conjugation of the same verb in second personal informal through a video and practised it in class. Students learned making band on song "Renegades" and also played percussion using waste/junk in their music classes. In ICT class, students wrote formulas in Excel 2013. Students are exploring Doodle Art and have started learning the technical aspects of the same in their art classes. Also, the motifs used in Doodle Art are being studied. Two different types of Doodle Art- Black & White and Coloured will be studied in detail. In PE classes, students practiced serving with forehand and backhand. They also practiced smashing with power and control. Further, the students played short set matches.

TD THEME - Where we are in place and time Central Idea - Explorations can lead to discoveries, opportunities, challenges and new understandings. Key Concepts – Form, Function and Reflection Students continued with their research about the explorers. Their research was about the route of the voyage and the reason for the exploration. The important voyages were also marked on the world map. As integration with English, they learnt the skill of reporting an event. In groups, they discussed and planned an imaginary voyage, then took the role of an explorer and reported their discoveries and exploration to the audience. They watched a video about explorations and identified the common reasons of European exploration. In their dance classes students learnt to express themselves as explorers through dance movements and came up with their own brilliant movement combinations which enhanced their understanding of the unit. Integrating UOI with technology, students created QR Codes to design clues for the explorers and researched about it in their Unit of Inquiry. Students were tuned into report writing through reading reports from a newspaper and identifying the elements of report writing. Students enhanced their social skills while working in pairs and presented a report on an imaginary voyage. In their Math classes students revised the steps of solving a word problem. They created their own story problem using the menu from different restaurants for reference. They also took their Summative Assessment based on the four basic operations. In ICT students gained knowledge on MS Excel tools like addition, row function and to maneuver through the excel sheet using arrows. Students gained knowledge on ‘pratyaya’ (suffix) and how it can create a new meaningful word. They practiced writing a formal letter.
Hindi Ab initio students learned letters 'Ja' and explored the vocabulary using these letters. They were introduced to the concept of 'Milte julte shabd' through couplets and created some couplets on their own. In music, students learned "Renegades" song and body percussion. In their art class, students explored Doodle Art. They also started to create their own designs using Doodle Art. In French class, students practiced spellings of various greetings and classroom objects. They also took the formative assessment of ‘Articles’. In Spanish class, students revisited greetings and the vocabulary used for ‘family members’ which was followed by a formative assessment. |
