TD THEME – How we express ourselves Central Idea – Technology is the language that can be used for human expression Key Concepts – Form, Function and Perspective We began to delve into the third line of inquiry “Different points of view on the use of technology” under the trans disciplinary theme “How we express ourselves”. We created a list of different tools and applications that are used as a means of communication. In groups, we researched about the advantages and disadvantages of apps like WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook, email, blogs etc. We worked on a chosen mode of communication technology and tried to persuade our peers to use the same. We were divided into two groups for debating the pros and cons of using technology. We watched a video to understand the nuances and etiquette of debating. For English language development, we worked on our social skills by giving a constructive feedback on the persuasive essays written by our peers. We read samples of persuasive essays which helped us to draft our own essays by using various elements of persuasive writing. As an integration with UOI, we wrote our first draft of the persuasive speech on ‘Technology is a boon in today's life’. We enjoyed debating as part of persuasive speech and are excited to refine our debating skills further. During ICT lessons, we revised the apps like iMovie, pages and keynotes on iPad. We are in the process of completing a presentation on the evolution of computers using the padlet and Powerpoint. Spanish lessons saw us revise the verb ‘SER’ and learn the uses of the verb ‘ESTAR’ by expressing our emotions. We also created a few emoticons. In French, we learnt to express our emotions by using different adjectives. We enjoyed participating in an activity wherein we enacted an emotion and our team member had to guess that emotion. For Math, we recapped the concept of addition and subtraction of fractions. We reinforced the concept of multiplication of a fraction and solved various word problems to understand the use of fractions in our daily lives.
We wrote an informal letter to a neighbour as a part of our Vernacular Formative Assessment, convincing him not to cut tree as they are a vital part of our environment. We discussed letter writing and article writing processes, during our Hindi lessons. For P.E, we revised the rules of cricket and practiced few skills like batting, bowling and fielding. We played an intra-class match too. During Art classes, we continue draw different parts of a human figure. We are trying to understand which geometric shapes can be used represent the human form. We have learned to connect geometric shapes through linear lines to create semi-realistic human figure drawings. We revised our school song and learned the song ‘Ek tu hi bharosa’ during Music lessons.

TD THEME – How we express ourselves Central Idea – Technology is the language that can be used for human expression Key Concepts – Form, Function and Perspective After a peaceful weekend, we continued our research into technology in communication. We brainstormed about the elements of a blog and wrote our class blog together. We researched about the features of different communication apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, skype and email. We got an opportunity to attend an interactive guest lecture on a widely used communication app, ‘Twitter’ by the Southeast Asia head of Twitter, Mr. Arvinder Gujral. As a part of our unit, we attended a cyber-safety workshop by Mr.Rakshit Tandon, who is the cyber-security expert for India and other countries. We became acquainted with an interesting website named ‘Padlet.com’ during ICT class, as a part of our unit. Padlet is a virtual wall on which we shared our views about cyber-crime. In English we learned how to plan and write essays. We analysed elements of an essay. We learnt how to write the introductory statement by applying HIT, which means hooking statement, introductory statement and thesis statement. We wrote essays on topics like ‘impact of internet on societies’, ‘should children be allowed to use cellphones?’ and ’computers today’. We also practiced writing the conclusion of an essay. In Mathematics, we were comparing unlike fractions. We were introduced to improper fractions and their conversion to mixed numbers. We ordered fractions in ascending and descending order and plotted them on a number line. We are now practicing to solve real life word problems. During Hindi classes, we learnt to type Hindi letters (Devnagiri) using the font “Susha”. We first typed our names and then progressed to writing sentences and paragraphs. We were given homework to write about Republic Day in ‘Susha’. We also used the font to write about ourselves, our pet, our teacher or our friend. Hindi Ab initio: We learned the concept of informal and formal letter writing. We also read the story “Phoota Ghara”. We then comprehended nouns, pronouns, adjectives and verbs from the story “Mera Sapna”. We practiced the sounds 'Jjhh' and 'Cchh' by speaking and writing vocabulary using the same. We got to know different types of emotions during French lessons. We learned how to pronounce the adjectives. We have enjoyed drawing different emotions in our process journal. In Spanish, we revised the conjugation of the verb "ESTAR" and learned its uses. We learned how to use this verb to talk about locations. We played a ball game in the class where we revised adjectives in Spanish. We also saw how to use the same verb with emotions and we learnt some words related to emotions and feelings in Spanish. In Music class, we played instruments (recorder, Melodica, Guitar and Keyboard) and learned the song "Ek tu hi bharosa". During Art class, we have started ‘Stippling Art’. We are in the process of understanding the different techniques of Stippling Art. We are also learning the difference between colour stippling art and mono colour stippling art. Highlights of the week We are putting our hearts and soul in the preparation of annual day. Please find a glimpse through these pictures. Our swimming champion Kritansh Kapoor won the Silver Medal in state-level swimming championship. Kudos Kritansh!!! Tech-savy, Harunoski created a quiz related to technology and engaged his peers during the ICT class. |
