Week 1,2 and 3TD Theme – How we organize ourselves Central Idea – Communities function because of the systems within them. Key Concepts – Function, Change, Connection The academics started on an enthusiastic note as students began their significant journey of learning in this new academic session. They were very pleased to welcome their new friends. Students worked in groups to determine their Essential Agreements, demonstrate their understanding of the Learner Profiles and the Attitudes and organize themselves for their year ahead. The students engaged in an activity wherein they made connections between the similarities between individuals and objects while creating a web of strings and things they have in common with other. Another interesting activity of the week was designing of their personal flag representing their identities. The students tuned into their first line of inquiry ‘The systems within a community.’ They used a mind - map to express their knowledge about systems. Students identified different systems in their homes and school and why these systems are important for the development of the organizations. Integrating English with UOI, students framed interview questions for different department heads in school and wrote a reflection on a system that they had examined. They researched and found some important steps of Interviewing a Department Head. They interviewed Head of the Departments of IT, Catering, Teaching and Learning, Admissions, Arrival and Dispersal, Administrations and Security. In their Math classes the students looked at variety of symbols from different number systems and researched on the same. They created a topic web / Venn – diagram to display their understanding of Indian and International number systems. To strengthen their understanding of Indian and International place value system, students designed a nine digit place value slider. Students, also recapitulated the concept of rounding off through various activities. In English students tuned into sentence structure through an interactive activity called spot the sentence. A variety of texts and articles were used to identify different types of sentences. They also read various articles and identified interrogative sentences. In groups, students read a variety of formal thank you letters to identify the elements and also created a template of a formal thank you letter.
In Hindi, students listened to the story ‘Rajkumar aur neem ka paudha’ and did oral and written comprehension based on the same. They discussed the learner profile attributes associated with story.
