TD THEME – Who we are CENTRAL IDEA – Recognizing similarities and differences between beliefs enables people to be global citizens. KEY CONCEPTS – Form, Connection and Responsibility The last week witnessed some parents enter the learning environment of their wards and take on the role of educators. The parents spoke about Judaism, Buddhism and Jainism. They spoke to the children about the religions they practise, their faith and beliefs. One of our teachers shared her beliefs in Islam with our students. It was heartening to watch the children appreciate the discussion and recognize the commonalities in all the religions. Students created informative leaflets to present their research about religion. They also researched about the fasting festivals and presented their research through ppt. Students also analysed about the reasons some of the wars fought in the name of religion. The lessons we learn from history enable us to build a better and peaceful world. Students continued to practice word problems about HCF and LCM. Some students taught various ways of calculating LCM and HCF to their peers. Students made Kahoot quiz about factors and multiples. In ICT, students enhanced their knowledge of computer fundamentals in their ICT classes, they learnt about the terms related to computer hardware, software and internet. In Hindi classes, Students discussed ‘Dohe’ by Kabeer and wrote their views inournals.They also discussed the story 'eedgaah' by Premchand and attempted an oral comprehension based on the same. In Hindi Ab initio classes, the students revisited and and practiced the grammar concepts learnt till date like 'sangya' (nouns) and 'sarvnaam' (pronouns) and language concepts like 'ling badlo' (genders) and 'vilom shabd' (opposites) by compiling oral sentences and picking out words from given sentences. They were introduced to the new grammar concept 'sarvnaam' (adjectives). Reading aloud was practiced through sentence reading. Students watched a video on "La navidad en España" and learnt how do Spanish people celebrate Christmas and New year. They also made a list of new vocabulary. In their French classes students read out the description of their partner and practiced pronunciation of difficult words. They also revised the previously done concepts with a Kahoot Quiz. Students continued to play percussion instruments in groups in their music lesson. (Bongo, Djembe, Tambourine & Cajon) Students are continuing with Mandala art form. Mandala Art is based on design patterns which are related to cultures and religions. Students are currently doing modern Mandala Art which is based on textile design. They are creating different forms related to Mandala Art using poster colours. In PE, students practised flat races and shuttle races and also played intra class shuttle relay match. Key Concepts – Form, Connection and Responsibility While pursuing their inquiry into the current unit, students were a part of a group activity wherein they sorted the symbols of different religions. They also had a classroom discussion about the significance of symbols in different religions. They described the religious artefacts with their peers during a 'Take and Talk' activity. They shared its appearance and its importance to the world, family and self. They also researched on the features of the major world religions and shared their research with the class. In English, students appeared for their Summative Assessment on biography. Then they were tuned into 'Similes and Metaphors' through an activity where they had to match the animals with the adjectives describing them. Further, they wrote their own similes based on colour, texture, sounds and size. For their formative assessment, students wrote a paragraph using similes. They also created a Venn-diagram stating the similarities and differences between similes and metaphors. To demonstrate their understanding of metaphors, students created their own charts depicting the different elements of metaphors. In Math, students were tuned into the concept of 'Factors and Multiples' through a group activity in which they were given certain number of counters which can be arranged either in one way or more than one way. They also created a number line to understand that factors are smaller than the number and multiples are greater than the number. Further, they learnt to compute the LCM of given pair of numbers in different ways. They also attempted a quiz about Factors and Multiples. In Hindi, students watched the video based on the famous story of Premchand 'eedgaah' followed by a classroom discussion. They also attempted comprehension based on the same. Hindi Ab-initio In Hindi Ab initio classes, the students practiced their listening and comprehension skills by watching the story video 'Bandar aur Magarmachh'. They took this forward by sequencing the story through pictures and then worked on their expression and writing skills by re-telling the story in their own words. The students practiced the concept of 'ekvachan-bahuvachan' (singular-plural) through words as well as sentence making. This was integrated with their learning of the grammar concept 'sarvnaam' and they learnt conversion of 'sarvnaam shabd' into plural form. The same was practiced through oral as well as written sentence making. Students enjoyed playing percussion instruments in their music lesson. (Bongo, Djembe, Tambourine & Cajon) They also watched video about the music in different religions. In ICT, students created a mind map using ‘Bubbl.us’ They are also learning to create a quiz using ‘Kahoot’.
Students gained knowledge on the different professions and nationalities in Spanish. They practiced the use of verb "SER-To be". In French, students discussed how to write about their partner in third person. They made a list of questions they will ask their partner and explored the ways in which they can compile the answers to write a description. They were also given the feedback on their presentations. In Art, students continued to work on Mandala style of Art which is based on design patterns which are related to cultures and religions. They are doing modern Mandala Art which is based on textile design. They are learning to create different forms related to Mandala Art through the medium of poster colours. In PE, students practiced how to serve with forehand and backhand in badminton. They also practiced smashing with power and control further the students played short set matches with each other. In their Dance classes students concentrated on improving the core muscles in order to make them flexible and strong. They practiced hip hop style of dance and stunts. |
