TD THEME – How the world works Central Idea – Machines transform energy and can make our lives simpler. Key Concepts – Form, Function, Change After learning about internet security, students tuned in to the new unit through discussion about the rescue of a bear, fallen into a construction pit. They watched a video of polar bear rescue mission and discussed the machines that were involved in rescuing the bear. Students also made a mind map and derived their own definition of a machine. They researched about the six simple machines, their features and uses. They represented their findings through posters on simple machines. In English classes, students learned to write the newspaper articles. They read the news-paper articles and identified the elements of newspaper article. Students used their thinking skills and wrote headlines for untitled articles. MYP 3 students taught grade 5 the skill of article writing. The students really enjoyed the activity. They understood the elements of an article of an article and wrote headlines of few articles. To observe International Mother Language Day, they researched about the different languages spoken across India and presented their research. In Maths classes, students recapped mixed operations on fractions and attempted summative assessment. Students attempted formative assessment on fraction through a Bingo game. Students recapped the place value system for whole numbers and then introduced to decimal place value system up to thousandth place. Students plotted decimal numbers on a decimal grid paper to understand tenths and hundredths place. In Hindi classes, classes, Students had Summative Assessments on the basis of unseen passages and letter writing. They had practice on the grammar concepts upsarg and pratyaya. In their Hindi Ab initio classes, the students were introduced to the concept of 'viraam chihn (punctuations)'. They practiced the same through different texts and oral exercises. Loud reading was practiced for correction of pronunciation and stress on punctuation. They have been introduced to the concept of using half letters in Hindi words by reading aloud of text with many such words. In Art classes, we have completed drawing of individual parts of the human body. Presently we have started joining the units to make a full human figure. We are trying to create proportions by technical measurements.
In Spanish classes, we learnt the conjugation and the use of two verbs with the same meaning (SER and ESTAR) we took a formative assessment on the same. In ICT classes, students showcased their presentations which they created on ‘Evolution of Computers’. They used Padlet to collate the information they researched and the created presentations in groups. In Music classes, Students played instruments (recorder,Melodica,Guitar&Keyboard) and learned song "Ek tu hi bharosa". P.E. – Children continued with Cricket Unit in their PHE classes. They revised rules of cricket and practised skills involved in batting, bowling and fielding. They also played intra class short sided match.
