TD THEME – How we express ourselves Central Idea – Technology is the language that can be used for human expression Key Concepts – Form, Function and Perspective We began to delve into the third line of inquiry “Different points of view on the use of technology” under the trans disciplinary theme “How we express ourselves”. We created a list of different tools and applications that are used as a means of communication. In groups, we researched about the advantages and disadvantages of apps like WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook, email, blogs etc. We worked on a chosen mode of communication technology and tried to persuade our peers to use the same. We were divided into two groups for debating the pros and cons of using technology. We watched a video to understand the nuances and etiquette of debating. For English language development, we worked on our social skills by giving a constructive feedback on the persuasive essays written by our peers. We read samples of persuasive essays which helped us to draft our own essays by using various elements of persuasive writing. As an integration with UOI, we wrote our first draft of the persuasive speech on ‘Technology is a boon in today's life’. We enjoyed debating as part of persuasive speech and are excited to refine our debating skills further. During ICT lessons, we revised the apps like iMovie, pages and keynotes on iPad. We are in the process of completing a presentation on the evolution of computers using the padlet and Powerpoint. Spanish lessons saw us revise the verb ‘SER’ and learn the uses of the verb ‘ESTAR’ by expressing our emotions. We also created a few emoticons. In French, we learnt to express our emotions by using different adjectives. We enjoyed participating in an activity wherein we enacted an emotion and our team member had to guess that emotion. For Math, we recapped the concept of addition and subtraction of fractions. We reinforced the concept of multiplication of a fraction and solved various word problems to understand the use of fractions in our daily lives.
We wrote an informal letter to a neighbour as a part of our Vernacular Formative Assessment, convincing him not to cut tree as they are a vital part of our environment. We discussed letter writing and article writing processes, during our Hindi lessons. For P.E, we revised the rules of cricket and practiced few skills like batting, bowling and fielding. We played an intra-class match too. During Art classes, we continue draw different parts of a human figure. We are trying to understand which geometric shapes can be used represent the human form. We have learned to connect geometric shapes through linear lines to create semi-realistic human figure drawings. We revised our school song and learned the song ‘Ek tu hi bharosa’ during Music lessons.
