TD THEME – How we express ourselves Central Idea – Technology is the language that can be used for human expression Lines of Inquiry:
In UOI, we enhanced our thinking skills by brainstorming about types of forces we experience around us. We researched about the properties of each force in groups and shared it with our peers. We began to delve into the second line of inquiry “Transformation of energy by machines”. By observing the bicycle that was kept in our class for a day, we explored the simple machines, types of forces and forms of energy involved in it. We understood the transformation of muscular to kinetic energy in a bicycle. We learned about the wastage of energy in various machines through real-life examples. We completed our Formative Assessment on the 2nd line of inquiry. We have actively started preparing for our PYP exhibition by creating logos. In ICT, we worked on our machine designs in Pivot Animator. We showcased the working of our machines through an animated sequence. During our English classes, we listened to a poem by Allan Ahlberg-“Please Mrs.Butler” and recited the same. We read a poem on machines by Rudyard Kipling. Through these poems, we appreciated the various elements like lines, stanza, rhyming patterns, mood and poetic devices like personification and alliteration. We read some more chapters of Oliver Twist and discussed the setting and character analysis. We were given an opportunity to change the conclusion for a chapter. In Math, we learned strategies for multiplying and dividing decimal numbers. We practiced word problems to appreciate the real-life application of this concept. We were introduced to rounding-off in decimals. During Hindi lessons, we learned ‘visheshan’ and its types. We discussed the use of ‘visheshan’ in our vocabulary and did a word activity based on it. During Hindi Ab-initio classes, we practiced loud reading to develop our oral skills. We learned and practiced vocabulary using the maatraa ‘ref’. We were introduced to the concept of ‘sangyaa’ through a picture reading exercise. We wrote the letters ‘dhha’, ‘Va’, ‘da’ and practiced the related vocabulary. We learned to conjugate ‘er’ ending and irregular verbs in present tense in French. We enjoyed participating in beat boxing championship. In Spanish, we learned the verb ‘Tener’. We also saw its use with different expressions. We wrote a role play by applying our knowledge of the three important verbs like ‘Ser, Ester and Tener’. For the Art classes, we almost completed the human figure drawing and proportions. Currently, we are working on the ways in which human figures can be a part of larger compositions. During our Dance lessons, we have started with basics of Salsa which includes the correction of posture and hip movements. We also recalled the basics of Jazz. In Music, we learned the song “everything at once” and explored about instrument’s family. We practiced forehand and backhand shot in Badminton during our P.E classes. We played a rally match with our partners.
