During their Mathematics lessons, the students took a summative assessment on decimals. They were then tuned in to percentages – they were given a stick figure of a human and asked to divide it into 3 parts – head, torso, lower part. They had to then estimate what part of the body did each part represent in percentage. Through this activity, they understood that one whole is 100%. Students learnt to convert fractions to percentages and practised this in class. Students explored real life examples to calculate percentages of a given quantity – and hopefully should now be able to calculate discounts when they go shopping! e.g. 40% off on Nike shoes. Students also created posters (using information from newspapers and magazines) to express their understanding of where they find percentage (%) in their real life. For their English lessons, the students defined nouns and identified singular and plural nouns. They were able to distinguish between different types of nouns like possessive nouns, collective nouns, proper nouns and their usage. They read a chapter from the book Oliver Twist and applied the knowledge of nouns to list different types of nouns given in the chapter. In their Hindi ab initio classes, the students practiced reading aloud sentences and sorting of 'kriyaa’(verb ) and 'sangyaa' ( noun ) from the same. They also enjoyed solving 'paheliyaan' (riddles) and created riddles of their own, enhancing their language skills. During the Spanish lessons students learnt the verb ‘Tener’ and its uses and they also took a formative assessment on the same verb. In French class, students were introduced to types of interrogative words such as why, what, how, where and when. They extended their learning by framing short and simple phrases by using the interrogative words. In their Art classes students have completed the unit on human figure drawing and proportions. They are currently working on ways in which human figures can become parts of larger compositions. In ICT classes students completed their final animation on machines using Pivot Animator. Students learned "Keharwa Taal" of Tabla in music classes. The children practiced forehand and backhand shot in Badminton. They also played a rally match with their respective partners. In dance classes, the basics of salsa and jazz was emphasised .The students worked on isolating hip movements along with the correct attitude and posture. Apart from academics, students were briefed about the NDTV Behtar India campaign which is aimed at creating a nationwide movement to encourage school children to spread awareness on three major aspects i.e health, hygiene and environment to make India a better place. The girls of grade 5 also attended a session to address the issues of puberty that aimed to make them aware of the various changes they might be experiencing. The session was conducted by the school counsellor Ms.Roma and the Secondary School Principal, Ms.Seema Kaushal .
